Elizabeth OrrockI was brought up on the stories my Uncle told me of his adventures in the travel industry, so it is no wonder that I followed in his footsteps. There is a certain satisfaction I get sending clients off for their perfect holiday, counting down the days to when their adventure begins and knowing that you helped create it with them. Before having children I had the opportunity to travel to some of the most romantic destinations in the world with my husband. The Maldives is a favourite with its idyllic beaches, its sumptuous seafood and spectacular snorkeling and diving. A private picnic on your own personal island was a highlight for me. After a short time you can understand why it is a favourite for honeymooners and lovers all over the world. Three children later and over 9 years as a Travel Consultant I realise that we need different types of holidays at different times of our lives, I know all to well the challenges of traveling with children. I enjoy helping families plan their holiday- so that everyone has a fantastic holiday experience. A recent driving holiday around the United States with my family gave me great insight into traveling with children and I would highly recommend it to any family, but like any holiday it is all in the planning. We all loved visiting the awe-inspiring Grand Canyon, its vastness with Condors soaring high above. The incredible sheer cliff faces are something that has to be experienced to comprehend. Photography enthusiasts like my husband will marvel at the magnificence of the dramatic landscape. Disneyland with children is a must, but with a mesmerizing offer of sites and entertainment it can be difficult to know where to start. I like helping my clients with the best places to stay and eat and shows to see that the whole family will love. Las Vegas, the city that never seems to sleep can be overwhelming. I would recommend booking early to see such legendary acts as Elton John and David Copperfield. I think it provides my customers with comfort to know that as a parent I have been there and can guide them through their holiday planning to suit the needs of ‘children’ of all ages. The best parts of my job are the special touches you are able to provide to your clients. Like a lady who recently booked a trip flying with Emirates. She was made to feel so special with the limo transfer to her hotel that she said it was the “icing on the cake” of her trip. Or a client that travelled to New Zealand who at the last minute decided to visit the ‘Glow Worm’ Caves in Waitomo, she said it was the unexpected surprise of her holiday. There is nothing more satisfying about being a Travel Consultant than a customer who returns from their holiday beaming from the experience. You know that you had a part in making their trip more than an itinerary, but a life experience. |
