Stunning TahitiAs soon as I boarded my Air Tahiti Nui aircraft in Auckland my experience began. With a light and bright cabin, comfortable seats and extra legroom combined with warm friendly Tahitian service, I already started to feel welcome in their beautiful country before we even took off.On arrival in Papeete we were greeted with a flower lei (as at every hotel we stayed at) and transferred to Le Meridien Tahiti for a welcome cocktail before retiring for the evening. An early start the next morning as we had to catch our Air Moorea, 10 min flight to the Island of Moorea. It gave us a good opportunity to see the islands from the air, and what an amazing site it was, beautiful crystal clear blue water lagoons surrounded by a coral reef and huge green, very steep mountains rising from the water. Later we got to explore the rugged mountains on a 4WD trip through the crater to one of the highest peaks for a breathtaking view of the island. This night we stayed at the absolutely amazing Sheraton Moorea Resort. This resort was increadable, in an ideal location on the lagoon with the amazing backdrop of the Moorea Volcanic mountains. Once we had checked in, we enjoyed a swim on the reef from our very own over water bungalow with private swimming platform and a glass floor so you can watch the fish while you drift off to sleep with the sound of the waves breaking on the edge of the reef. The next day we traveled back via Papeete to connect with our Air Tahiti flight to the outer island of Manihi. This island consists of a village of 400 people and the Manihi Pearl Beach Resort. Here we stayed in Beach bungalows which were again finished well and had outdoor bathrooms. This is truly the place for people who are wanting to just “get away from it all.” Pristine beaches with crystal clear water (which you could wade through at knee depth for about 50 metres) surrounded by a coral athol and a true feeling of isolation really make this a special place. What an increadable experience it was to visit Tahiti and her Islands, a destination that truly is paradise! I would love to tell you more about this beautiful place, please feel free to drop by St Ives Travel American Express for more details. It really is a destination for everyone, even if on a budget, there are plenty of options. |
